Plate

This is a plate. It was ceramist: Josefina Pla. It is dated 1931. Its medium is porcelain, glazes. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.


Born in Spain, Plá settled permanently in Paraguay in 1937. While this work draws its imagery from the ancient Inca Empire, Plá—a poet, playwright, historian, and cultural critic—was also inspired by the ceramic history of her adopted country and published La Cerámica Popular Paraguaya, a historical survey of popular ceramics of Paraguay, in 1994.

It is credited Everson Museum of Art, Gift of IBM Corporation.
