Plate

This is a plate. It was ceramist: Carmen Saco. It is dated 1929. Its medium is white earthenware and glazes. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.

While Saco was a student at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Lima, Peru, in 1925, a presidential grant funded her first study trip to Europe. She made this plate in Manises, a Spanish village known for its rich ceramic history. On the back, she described its style as "Ancient Peruvian"—likely referring to the Paracas culture that was discovered by Peruvian archaeologists in the 1920s. Saco’s works had previously represented contemporary Peruvian ceramics at the 1937 Paris Exposition and the 1939 New York World’s Fair.

It is credited Everson Museum of Art, Gift of IBM Corporation.

Its dimensions are

H x diam.: 4.4 × 47 cm (1 3/4 × 18 1/2 in.)

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.
