Textile, Cosmos, 1913

This is a Textile. It was designed by Sophia L. Crownfield and manufactured by Cheney Brothers.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It has been able to spend time at the museum on loan from National Museum of American History.

It is dated 1913. Its medium is silk. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.

Cheney Brothers described Cosmos as “a decorative material used for the manufacture of kimonos, sofa cushions, bedspreads, lambrequins, etc.” The design of freely scattered flowers, some fully open and others with only buds, retains the freshness of Crownfield’s style, as seen in the similarity between her color study drawing and the finished silk textile

It is credited Smithsonian National Museum of American History, T01023.000.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 86.4 × 74.9 cm (34 in. × 29 1/2 in.)
