Robe

This is a Robe. It was made by Unknown. It is dated ca. 1905 and we acquired it in 2019. Its medium is cotton, silk. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Fluid embroidery at the collar, waist, and cuffs of this robe depicts the humble yet fragrant bluebell and cabbage rose that were favorite flowers of the British Arts & Crafts movement. Modeled off of medieval influences in material and silhouette, this flowing velvet robe evokes the historic romanticism that was fashionable at the turn of the 20th century.

This object was donated by Andrew van Styn. It is credited Gift of Andrew Van Styn from the estate of Don Magner.

Its dimensions are

H x W (overall): 139.7 × 105.4 cm (55 in. × 41 1/2 in.)
