Textile, Bluette
This is a Textile. It was designed by Atelier Martine and made for Paul Poiret. It is dated ca. 1912 and we acquired it in 1984. Its medium is cotton warp, linen weft and its technique is screen printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Paul Poiret hired untrained girls to work in his school, École Martine. Encouraging them to sketch their innocent impressions of plants and animals, Poiret turned the drawings into popular drapery, carpet, and wallcovering designs.
This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Bluette by Atelier Martine.
