Poster, Konkrete Utopien in Kunst und Gesellschaft
This is a Poster. It is dated ca. 1990 and we acquired it in 2010. Its medium is silkscreen print on wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Hans-Rudolf Lutz is known for challenging the common conception of modern Swiss typography and graphic design as stark, exacting, and clean. He was particularly interested in the social potential role that graphics could play in visual communication. This poster has the customary type and ordered grid layout, but overlays free-written type. Lutz paid close attention to a more popular, informal use of graphic design (graffiti, shop signs), which he often incorporated into his work.
