Textile With Cloth Marks (France)

This is a Textile with cloth marks. It is dated 1750–1800 and we acquired it in 1995. Its medium is linen and its technique is printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Elinor Merrell. It is credited Bequest of Elinor Merrell.

Its dimensions are

Warp: 199 cm (78 1/4 in. ). Weft; (selvage on left), 90 cm (35 3/8 in. ).

It has the following markings

Side A. An oval containing three fleur d lys and a crown over the letters 'FON' in brown stamped at each end, 'F 5785' in brown stamed at one end and in the middle, 'F.8517. ' stamped in blue alone one edge, ' 14733' stamped in black, 'f.8094' and '238' stamped in red. No marks on the other side.
