Poster, Campesinos: Para Acabar con la Especulación Solo Hay un Medio la Cooperativa (Peasants: in order to stop the speculation, there is only one way, the co-operative)

This is a Poster. It was designed by Vicente Canet and published by Federación Provincial Campesina (València). It is dated 1936 and we acquired it in 1997. Its medium is lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

The agrarian reform and peasant revolution were two of the most controversial problems in the Second Republic of Spain (c. 1931). Vincent Canet Cabellón’s poster is emblematic of the agricultural upheaval that occurred at the start of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The message of this poster highlights the underproduction and mismanagement of Spanish agricultural properties, as well as the discontent of agricultural laborers and sharecroppers in rural districts.
