Dyer's Record Book (England)
This is a Dyer's record book. It was made by Thomas Ratcliffe. It is dated 1812–1823 and we acquired it in 1987. Its medium is leather, paper, cotton and its technique is (samples) block and roller printed on plain weave foundation. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Thomas Ratcliffe, a textile printer from northern England, recorded dye recipes for printed textiles in his personal record book. The recipes are noteworthy for they reveal the types of colorants.
