Plate Plate

This is a plate. It was made by John Sutton. It is dated 1691 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It has the following markings

On edge of plate: [1] "J" interlaced by "S" within a beaded oval boarder, impressed (maker's mark) [2] Crowned leopard's head, impressed (town mark, London, 1478–1822) [3] "O" in a shield, impressed (date mark, 1691) [4] Lion passant, impressed (standard mark, England)

It is inscribed

Inscribed along the edge: [1] "C S I ", incised (monogram)
