Vase (China)
This is a vase. It is dated early 18th century and we acquired it in 1966. Its medium is porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Originating in China during the first or second century, the use of celadon glaze refers to a family of ceramics with transparent glazes often marked by pronounced cracking. In Western countries, this surface effect is more commonly known as a “crackle” glaze. This bud vase’s dark crazing throughout an otherwise glossy white glaze is characteristic of celadon. – A formula only known in Asia at the time it was made, the celadon would have made this vase valuable Chinese export porcelain.
