Medallion (France), early 19th century, after 1804
This is a Medallion. It is dated early 19th century, after 1804 and we acquired it in 1962. Its medium is linen and its technique is bobbin lace, lille style with heavy outlining thread. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Napoleon was named Emperor in 1804 and this imperial insignia was no doubt intended to be part of a large scale lace, probably a bed cover.
