Bracelet (England or United States)
This is a Bracelet. It is dated ca. 1837 and we acquired it in 1960. Its medium is hair, gold, ivory, seed pearls, pailettes. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The brooch is inscribed on the back, "Mary Ann Groves, born August 12, 1804, Died April 11, 1837" The bracelet is formed from tightly woven cords of hair braided loosely together. The brooch incorporates a balloon-woven hair border and a picture of a cornucopia of flowers made from pieces of hair stiffened with paste and cute with a knife. (Jewelry 1989-90)
