Portrait Miniature Of A Nun On A Box (England)
This is a Portrait Miniature of a Nun on a box. It was created by Richard Cosway. It is dated ca. 1790 and we acquired it in 1931. Its medium is watercolor and gum arabic, cut ivory, wood. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Richard Cosway was a foremost miniaturist of his age. The poignant and simple portrait of a nun is an example of his refined draftsmanship, as well as a graceful depiction of a common personage of its time.
