Tea Bowl and Saucer Tea Bowl And Saucer

This is a tea bowl and saucer. It was manufactured by Zurich Pottery and Porcelain Factory. It is dated ca. 1775 and we acquired it in 1924. Its medium is porcelain (possibly soft paste), vitreous enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Sarah Cooper Hewitt and Eleanor Garnier Hewitt.

Its dimensions are

H x diam. (a: cup): 5 × 8 cm (1 15/16 × 3 1/8 in.) H x diam. (b: saucer): 2.9 × 13.1 cm (1 1/8 × 5 3/16 in.)

It has the following markings

Underside of cup: [1] "Z" with stroke, painted in underglaze blue (manufactory mark) [2] "IV" and "J.", incised underglaze [3] dot, painted in black (?) [4] line, painted in black (faint) Underside of saucer: [1] three lines, incised underglaze
