Bound Print, Plate 1, La Chasse au Lapins (Rabbit Hunt), Nouveau Livre de Singes (New Book of Monkeys)
This is a bound print. It was designed by Christophe Huet and engraved by Louis-Philippe Boitard and published by Vanheck. It is dated ca. 1743 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is engraving on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
A well-equipped monkey with a musket, powder flask, and hunting hound quietly approaches two plump rabbits from behind. In reality, rabbits have a strong flight response so it is unlikely this duo would have been successful in their pursuit.
