Bound Print, Entryway and Exterior Elevation of the Room on the Place de l'Estrapade
This is a Bound print. It was published by François Blondel and Marguerite Caillou Chéreau. It is dated 1751 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is engraving on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
The marriage of the Dauphin with the Spanish princess Maria Teresa was celebrated in Paris with elaborate festivities. Six centers of entertainment were constructed in six different quarters of Paris. There were pavilions as each: a Temple of Hymen, the god of nuptial; one for each of the four seasons; and the sixth dedicated to Momus, the god of joy. Each was entered through an archway. The luxurious book recording the events is opened to the winter pavilion.
