Keyhole Plate Latch
This is a Keyhole Plate Latch. It is dated 18th century and we acquired it in 1909. Its medium is wrought and gilded iron. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Keyhole latches were primarily found on interior doors, closets and doors to stairs. Most latches would have been painted to match room colors.
It is credited Museum purchase from Interest Account Fund.
