Sport Top
This is a Sport top. It was manufactured by H. Stoll AG & Co. KG and the design director was Jörg Hartmann and design team member: Karen Klabunde, Petra Meyer and Francesco Collura. It is dated 2016 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is virgin wool, lycra, polyamide, polyester and its technique is knitted in various purl stitches, double layer construction. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Stoll, a German manufacturer of flat knitting machines, created the Performance+ collection of concept athletic apparel to showcase the capabilities of their state-of-the-art machinery. This seamless, fully-fashioned sports top was knitted in one piece for comfort, waste reduction, and reduction in manual labor. Pre-shaped, double-layer cups are made using 3-D goring* technology, with variable stitch density giving extra support. A compression band under the cups provides increased comfort, while the remainder of the ribcage remains highly flexible. Knit meshes throughout the chest and upper back promote moisture transfer. A knitted-in pocket holds a removable NFC chip or other electronic devices. Design features such as color blocking on the body, color transitions, and three-dimensional mesh effects are created with a variety of Stoll trademarked technologies, including Stoll-ikat plating.
*Goring is a method of expanding a garment or other textile product usually by inserting a triangular piece of fabric, but in this case, it is integrated into the 3-D knitting technology.
