Book plate showing a detailed analysis of the 1870 national census, with data presented in the form of infographics. The infographics take each US state in the form of a grey square, and then using vertical stripes in olive green, pale teal, sienna, pastel blue, golden yellow, pastel yellow, red, black and brown, display data relating to church accomodation. The states are presented alphabetically with six columns and seven rows, aside from the first row, which contains only five, using a larger square to represent the whole of the United States. A key can be found in the top right corner and text in the top center explains the chart.
