Textile

This is a Textile. It was designed by Anita McHenry. It is dated 1960–1969 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is cotton, linen and its technique is printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This 1960s drapery fabric, possibly designed by Anita McHenry, pays tribute to the designs of architect Angelo Testa. Testa’s screen-printed textiles frequently consisted of abstract geometric patterns, printed in a single color on an unbleached linen ground. They were also notable for their balanced treatment of positive and negative space.
This pattern is inspired by an Aztec labyrinth design, connecting it to several other pieces in this proposed acquisition, which take as their inspiration the archaeological excavations of the early settlements in the American Southwest and Mexico.

This object was donated by American Historical Textile Museum. It is credited American Textile History Museum Collection, gift of Giles Kotcher.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 266.7 × 128.3 cm (105 × 50 1/2 in.)
